After driving my MR2 for about 18 months I decided to have a go at nailing my heel and toe downshifts in it. Now, I’m far from a newcomer to heel and toe and can pretty much do it in my sleep on my BMWs which have pedals perfectly placed for it but with the MR2 the clutch and brake are a bit of ways away from the gas so its a bit of a stretch. Regardless, after a couple exit ramps and figuring out that I actually had to use my heel (who knew) and not just the side of my foot, I was easily hitting all of my downshifts. Not the greatest of happenings but I havent really had much to contribute as of late.

This is something I have picked up. I attempt to rev-match every gear shift. I think it’s good fun and something we should all aim towards. The more you do it, the better you get. It makes the sound of lifting the clutch synchronising the engine sound like defeat.
Most of us are driving manual for the thrill right? So why not take that a step further, and try to exercise more control over what the car’s doing?

Ps. It’s hard to make a post like this without sounding elitist. I’m not trying to be.

There’s nothing more satisfying than getting a super smooth 4-3-2 heel toe, but I’m not too consistent.
